tr_🇺🇦 Is Coffins too... highbrow for you? Have you always wondered why Mortician play fast as well, even though the breakdowns are always more fun and actually distinguishable from the drum machine just rattling away? If you answer at least one of these questions with yes or any question with more than 3 words with either yes or no then say yes to this band. Or no. Favorite track: Corrumpert Interludium.

xhrl_ Partly inspired by Black Sabbath and early doom, the guitars sound so downtuned, the riffs sound like a bass guitar. Expect simple but catchy riffs on this LP. They play a little chugga-chugga, then slow down to a crawl, the downpicks lurching to the sound of gurgling vocals. No uptempo beats. Gateway don’t play essential doom/death. Death metallers only have the vocals to savor, as the band play mostly stripped death/doom and a guitar that sounds like it was run through a synth. Go medieval!

about

Belgium’s one man death-doom project “Gateway” unleashes it’s self-titled debut, the follow-up to last year’s well received 3-track demo “Aeternae".

Gateway returns with 40 minutes of sluggish and barbaric death metal infused with ungodly doom and sludge. Depraved tales of ritualistic horror and grotesque beings in a conceptual Medieval theme, inspired by Van Oyen’s hometown, Bruges.

Press quotes:

“As dark and suffocating as strapping an oxygen mask to your truck’s muffler. Play at loud volume and watch worms come out of the ground with the sheer reverb produced.” -CVLT NATION

“Gateway succeeded in creating a sonic concept in a horrifying medieval setting. These songs are horror stories, tales about torture and misschief, with an energy-draining soundtrack.” -MERCHANTS OF AIR

“The sound of the Earth’s crust cracking under the weight of humanity’s filth and decaying away, letting us all fall into the void. Winter would be proud that there are bands like Gateway to carry on their tectonic legacy.” -THE KILLCHAIN BLOG

“Gateway is a beast of an album, revealing more to the listener with each subsequent listen. No, not listen: session. Because the 40 minutes you spend with this album will twist your mind like some torturous medieval machination leaving you rent but better for it.” -DRUNK IN A GRAVEYARD

“What does it need for a person to sound so savage, heavy and depressive, to the point you can’t tell if it’s just a regular human being or a grotesque creature of darkness that’s responsible for that eerie and sluggish resonance? If you really want to know the answer for that difficult question, I suggest you take a listen at the self-titled debut album by Belgian Medieval Doom/Death Metal one-man army Gateway.” -THE HEADBANGING MOOSE

“Doomdeathfans met een voorliefde voor gorgelende kelderklanken à la Mortician gaan hier absoluut van smullen.” -ZWARE METALEN
